Chelsea and Liverpool could go head-to-head to sign Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana this summer, according to The Mail.
The 24-year-old has been an established member of the Monaco squad since his arrival in 2020. He is now a regular in the France set-up.
It is now reported by The Mail that Chelsea and Liverpool are interested in signing Fofana during the upcoming transfer window.Chelsea’s co-sporting director Laurence Stewart knows Fofana’s profile, having held a similar position at Monaco between 2021 and 2022.
However, the Blues are set to face stiff competition from Liverpool, who are likely to provide the midfielder with European football.
Monaco are yet to set an asking price for the Frenchman but he is widely expected to be sold due to their disappointing league season.
The Principality outfit are currently on course to miss out on a top-three finish which would guarantee them Champions League football.
As a result, they are set to incur heavy losses in the next financial year. They plan to compensate for it with multiple player sales.
