Manchester United have reportedly joined Manchester City in the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
The Cityzens are currently in talks with the player’s agent and it has been reported that personal terms could be agreed soon.
However, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, United have apparently entered the race and may look to hijack the transfer deal.
Kovacic will enter the final year of his Chelsea contract next month and he is widely expected to be sold by the London giants.Pep Guardiola’s side were touted as his destination but United will now be hoping to bring him to Old Trafford alongside Mason Mount.
Mount has already agreed personal terms with United and the club are currently speaking with the Blues over the price tag.
Neither player will come on the cheap. Chelsea want at least £70m for Mount while they are set to hold out for £40m on Kovacic.
The Blues plan to balance their financial books by June 30 and they are expected to offload the midfield duo in the coming weeks.
