Manchester United are planning a surprise move for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford amid David de Gea’s reluctance to sign a new contract.
De Gea’s current £375,000-a-week deal expires at the end of the month, and the club have decided against triggering a 12-month extension clause.
Instead, they are prepared to negotiate a new £200,000-a-week contract, but it seems the Spaniard has no plans to lower his wage requirements.
With interest from Saudi clubs, De Gea has no desire to accept a pay-cut and this could pave the way for his free transfer away from United.
Meanwhile, The Sun claim that Pickford could replace De Gea. United are ready to make a £45m bid for the services of the England star.Everton are currently cash-strapped with a huge wage bill and it is claimed that they could be forced to accept the Red Devils’ proposal.Tottenham are also keen on him, but United have the edge with Champions League football. They could double his current £100,000-a-week salary.
