Arsenal have reportedly joined Manchester United in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio this summer.
The Gunners are currently in advanced talks with Ajax for Jurrien Timber and the Dutchman is expected to join the club soon.
Timber has the ability to play in both central defence and right-back, but the Gunners have now been linked with another centre-back.
Inacio is regarded as one of the best upcoming stars in Portuguese football and he had a brilliant individual season with Sporting.
The left-footed star completed more than 90 per cent of his passes while winning nearly two clearances and tackles per game.
United have been closely watching the 21-year-old for a while, but it is claimed that Arsenal could offer them competition.
Inacio currently has a release clause worth €45 million in his contract, and he has turned down a new long-term deal at Sporting.
Sporting are willing to accept instalments for the defender’s exit, provided they receive the entire €45m fee over several years.
