Chelsea are determined to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Manuel Ugarte amid interest from Liverpool.
The Uruguayan has been a revelation for Sporting but is expected to move on during the summer transfer window.
He has recently snubbed a contract extension and could be sold for his release clause worth €60m this summer. Liverpool have already opened talks with his agent Jorge Mendes, but the Blues are optimistic of winning the race. Jurgen Klopp’s side look set to miss out on Champions League football and this could benefit the Blues in the pursuit. Chelsea have started an ambitious project for the long term and they are keen on pursuing emerging stars with value.
Ugarte could be a fantastic signing for them, considering his excellent tackling and ability to win regular duels.
He is perfectly suited for the Premier League but may need to improve on his discipline to avoid possible sending offs. Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with him.
