Manchester City have made an opening bid of £77 million to sign RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol this summer.
The Croatia international has already agreed terms with the Cityzens, and talks are now ongoing between the clubs over the fee.
The Cityzens have proposed to sign him for an overall package of £77m, but the Bundesliga outfit are expected to hold out for more.
Leipzig want at least £86m for the highly-rated central defender and they remain reluctant to accept a lesser price for his departure.
Gvardiol has also been linked with Chelsea in the past. The Blues tried to sign him for around £75m at the beginning of last season.
Leipzig were clearly reluctant to sanction his sale and it seems the Blues are unlikely to revive their interest in the 21-year-old star.
The Blues’ focus is currently on bolstering the midfield and centre-forward departments with marquee players before the new season.
The club are determined to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo while they are eyeing another striker after Nicolas Jackson.
